This weekend ended up being so-so weather wise. It started raining Saturday afternoon and only let up early Monday morning. Thankfully there was some sun this morning and the baby and I took off for the park with the dog. We're supposed to have more rain through Thursday or Friday. Ugh!
My rainy weekend projects were (in no particular order):
Morning sticky buns with pecans.
I've been meaning to make these for a while, but the idea of having to shell the pecans (they don't sell unshelled pecans in Italy, which means I'm never making a pecan pie!) has always put me off. The craving finally won out and I mixed these up in the bread machine and let them rise over night in the fridge. Then I just popped them in the oven in the morning. They are pretty darn good.
Felt cherry pie
This one is almost done, I just need to hand sew it together. I bought some 100% wool felt on Friday at
Zest (my Italian Michael's). I've been looking at all sorts of lovely felt play food on the Web for inspiration. I found the
template for this felt cherry pie on Martha Stewart's site. I'll be adding more felt food to Eleonora's "pantry" a little at a time. She's not quite at the pretend play stage yet, but when she is there will be a well stocked play kitchen waiting for her.
Lorenzo was in Kiev, Ukraine on business and returned yesterday by way of Vienna, Austria. This famous chocolate cake hails from there. Aren't I lucky to have such a thoughtful husband?
The lovely keepsake box my cake came in
Dark chocolate frosting, oh my!
I get to have my cake and eat it too. Yum...
